Short answer
Open Schoology in a web browser, click the arrow next to your name and choose Account Settings. Under Share your Schoology Calendar, click Enable, then copy the iCal link and paste it into Nudge.
Schoology shows upcoming work on its own calendar, but it won’t tap you on the shoulder the night before something’s due. Its calendar sharing setting fixes that: it gives you a private iCal link with every dated assignment, test and event. Schoology, part of PowerSchool, is used by thousands of middle and high school districts.
Step 1: Find your Schoology calendar link
- Open Schoology in a web browser. Click the arrow next to your name, then Account Settings.
- Under Share your Schoology Calendar, click Enable.
- Copy the iCal link that appears.
Tip: Schoology only makes the link once your calendar has at least one event. If it won’t, add any event to your Schoology calendar first, then try again.
The link looks something like webcal://yourschool.schoology.com/calendar/feed/ical/…. It’s private to you: anyone who has it can read your calendar, so don’t post it or share it.
Step 2: Get a reminder before every due date
- Get Nudge from the App Store. It’s free.
- Pick Schoology from the list of school platforms. (Later on, it’s under Settings › School calendar, or tap “Paste my calendar link” on Home.)
- Paste the link. Your dated work appears in one list, sorted by due date, and Pip starts watching.
You choose how early Pip speaks up: 1 day and 2 hours before a deadline, or 1 day, 3 hours and 1 hour before. Deadlines due together share one nudge, and nothing arrives overnight. Nudge rechecks your link whenever you open it or pull down to refresh, and if a teacher moves a date, it tells you what changed.
What comes through from Schoology
Assignments, tests, quizzes and events with a date on your Schoology calendar, across your courses. Work without a due date won’t be in it. Calendar feeds share due dates, not grades or whether you’ve submitted, so mark work done in Nudge after you hand it in. For anything that isn’t in the feed, type it into Nudge like a text: “essay draft thursday 9am”.
Other ways to see Schoology due dates on your iPhone
The same link works in any calendar app that can subscribe to a calendar. That’s a good way to see your due dates, but it isn’t built to remind you of them:
- Apple Calendar: in the Calendar app, tap Calendars, then Add Calendar › Add Subscription Calendar, and paste the link. Subscribed calendars are read-only, so you can’t add your own alert to each assignment, and school feeds usually don’t include alerts of their own.
- Google Calendar: on a computer, click + next to Other calendars › From URL. Google checks subscribed links on its own schedule, so new or moved due dates can take many hours to appear.
Nudge reads the link for one job: deadlines. It lists them by due date, counts down to the next one, nudges you before each, flags anything that moved, and lets you mark work done.
Troubleshooting
There’s no Share your Schoology Calendar section.
Use Schoology in a browser; the setting isn’t in the mobile app. If it’s still missing, your school may have turned calendar sharing off, and your school’s Schoology admin is the person to ask.
Nothing happens when I click Enable.
Your calendar needs at least one event before Schoology will make the link. Add any event, then click Enable again.
The link starts with webcal://.
That’s normal for Schoology. Nudge accepts webcal:// and https:// links.
Questions
Does Nudge need my Schoology password?
No. Nudge only reads the private iCal link. It never signs in to Schoology.
Can parents use the Schoology calendar link?
Nudge is built around a student’s own deadlines. If a parent account has its own calendar sharing option, its link works the same way, but the steps here are for student accounts.
Does Nudge know what I’ve turned in?
No. The Schoology feed shares dates only. Mark work done in Nudge after you hand it in.
Still stuck? Email [email protected] and say which platform you use, but please don’t send the link itself. See also: what a school calendar feed is and how to keep it private.
Let Pip keep watch.
Nudge is free on iPhone and iPad. Paste your link once and get a nudge before every deadline.
